The bar charts presented delineate the number of rural and urban residents in Europe affected by the noise pollution of traffic, trains, aircraft, and industry during day and night, in the year 2007.
Overall, it is readily apparent that the noise pollution in the cities during day times was higher comparative to the rural areas. The pollution created by traffic was significantly high in both regions, especially in the urban areas. Moreover, there was no industrial pollution in the rural settings in both the times of the day.
In cities, traffic causes severe disturbance for the citizens of Europe, while 68 million people get disturbed during the day hours and 48 million during night. Similarly, in the rural regions an extensive number of dwellers suffer from this concern, with 35 million people in the day hours and 24 million in the night. The next most prominent cause of noise pollution was trains, with 10 million people who were troubled in day time and 8 million during the night in the cities, and 8 million people and 6 million people felt for the former in rural areas.
Furthermore, the number of people disturbed by the sounds of aircraft during day time in the urban settings was 4 million, and half of the population suffered in rural araes, that is 2 million, whereas 1 million people were struggling from this type of pollution at night in both the regions. Finally, industries created zero noise pollution in rural areas and 1 million dwellers were affected in day hours and one-fourth of it during night hours in the cities.
