Overall, both experienced a consistent increase, but Dubai had a higher increase than Malaysia. In 1995, Dubai attracted 50,000 tourists. However, it experienced three declines in 1996 (<50,000), 1999 (<200,000), and 2002 (300,000). Dubai increase in tourists was particularly noticeable in the late 1990s, with the number of tourists increasing from 200,000 in 1998 to 250,000 in 2000. There after the increase continued, reaching over 300,000 visitors in 2001 and a peak of 400,000 visitors in 2003.
In contrast, Malaysia started with a higher number, around 100,000 tourists in 1995. increased consistently, especially in the early 2000s when the number increased from 250,000 in 2000 to 375,000 in 2001, but declined to less than 300,000 in 2002, and 250,000 in 2003. Although the growth rate is slower, this data can therefore show that Dubai has a more consistent upward graph than Malaysia.
