The table gives data about the proportion of the men and women workforce in six fields in 1993 and 2003.
Overall, services and transport accounted for the highest percentages in both years, regardless of gender. Additionally, the fields of agriculture, building, and social services eventually observed the smallest participation rates among both genders.
Regarding female workers, services/transport, manufacturing, and agriculture witnessed reductions to different extents, 53% to 36%, 25% to 12%, and 8% to 6%, respectively. The percentage of the male workforce in agriculture and building also decreased from 38% and 12 % in 1993 to 8% and 10% in 2003.
Meanwhile, increases were seen in the remaining sectors of the women’s workforce, specifically, social services ( 13% to 18%), building ( 0% to %), and business experienced the most significant growth of 21%. Similarly, the proportion of men working in business rose notably from 7% to 25% over the period. Services/transport, manufacturing, and social services of the male workforce also increased, but to a lesser extent, reaching the final figures of 31%, 17%, and 9%, respectively.
