The pie chart shows what percentage of water was used for five different purposes, whereas the bar chart compares the proportions of water use in the five various components of one category(residential use) in Australia in 2004. Overall, residential use of water was more than double the amount used for the remaining four combined. In the meanwhile, the leading two constituents of residential water use accounted for the most amount water used for homes and apartments.
Looking at the pie chart, 70% of water in this country was consumed by homes: 50% for houses and 20% for apartments, which made Australian households the leader on the list. The next largest users were factories and businesses, which utilized significantly less water, at around 10% each. The Australian government and other entities combined contributed less than 10% to the total water consumption(6% and 3% respectively).
Turning to domestic water use in Australia in 2004. Gardening and bathing headed the list, at 28-27%, while toilets used around half as much, at 15%. Washing clothes showed 20% of household water use, which was twice as high as the figure for kitchens(10%).
