Overall, the residential sector used the largest amount of electricity in both years, while transport and agriculture accounted for the smallest percentages. There were some changes in the use of electricity in manufacturing, aluminium and other metals, but the figures for residential and commercial sectors remained the same.
In 2007, residential areas consumed 28% of the electricity, which was the highest figure. Commercial use was the second largest at 23%. Aluminium and manufacturing each accounted for 13%, while other metals represented 12%. Mining used 9%. Transport and agriculture had the lowest figures, at only 1% each.
In 2010, the percentage for residential and commercial electricity use did not change, remaining at 28% and 23% respectively. However, the use by other metals increased from 12% to 18%. In contrast, manufacturing decreased from 13% to 9%, while aluminium fell slightly from 13% to 11%. Mining, transport and agriculture stayed unchanged at 9%, 1% and 1% respectively.
Overall, the biggest increase was in other metals, while manufacturing showed the largest decrease.
