The pie charts provide a breakdown of the percentage of electricity usage in terms of eight different sectors in Eastern Australia over a 3-year period, starting with 2007.
Overall, the period saw a notable shift in the proportions of the industrial sectors, namely manufacturing, other metals and aluminium. Noticeably, the biggest and smallest portions remained stable throughout the period.
The two largest energy consumers in 2007 were residential and commercial sectors, with 28% and 23%, respectively. They sustained their respective market shares until 2010 by recording the two largest percentages.
“The transport, mining and agriculture sectors also remained stable, although at very different levels: transport and agriculture each accounted for only 1%, whereas mining held a considerably higher share of 9%.”
The manufacturing, aluminium and “other” metals witnessed some significant changes. Starting at 12%, the percentage of “other” metals grabbed nearly one-fifth of overall usage in 2010. Conversely, the consumption of energy in manufacturing and aluminium dropped, losing 4% and 2% of their respective market shares.
