The pie chart illustrates how university students in Canada distributed their average monthly expenditures across five different categories in the year 2025.
Overall, it is clear that housing and food constituted the vast majority of the students’ budget, with rent and utilities being the highest expense. Conversely, travel required the least amount of financial allocation.
Looking at the details, rent and utilities accounted for the largest share of monthly spending at 35%. Food and drinks followed closely as the second most significant expense, making up exactly 30% of the total budget. Together, these two essential categories commanded nearly two-thirds (65%) of the students’ total monthly outgoings.
In contrast, the remaining expenses were relatively minor and closely distributed. Books and supplies represented 13% of the monthly budget, which was just marginally higher than the spending on entertainment (12%). Finally, students allocated the lowest portion of their money to travel, which stood at just 10%.
