The given pie chart illustrates the proportion of different reasons for universal land deterioration while the table provides the information about the percentage of causes of soil erosion by region.
Overall, it is noticeable that the main reason causing land to be less productive is overgrazing, while the region affected by land degradation the most was Europe.
Regarding the pie chart, overgrazing accounted for the largest amount of global soil erosion with 35%, right after that is deforestation with 30%. Meanwhile, the sum of the amount of over-cultivation and others is equal to overgrazing, reaching 28% and 7%.
According to the table, soil erosion in Europe was the highest at 23%, mainly from deforestation and over-cultivation with 9.8% and 7.7%, respectively. Right after that is total land eroded in Oceania with 13%. The majority of the proportion is over-grazing with 11.3%, while deforestation and over-cultivation only accounted for 1.7% and 0%, respectively. The least of the three regions is North America, at only 5%. Noticeably, deforestation occupied just 0.2%, while the percentage of over-cultivation exceeds more than twice that of overgrazing, at 3.3% and 1.5%, respectively.
