The pie chart depicts the major reasons why agricultural land has become less productive and its effects on a major part of the world. In an overview, over-grazing by cows can be seen as a major reason for degradation, and the most affected region is Europe.
After over-grazing, deforestation takes the second major percentage, leading to land degradation, which is 30%. Compared to over-grazing, it is usually 5% less. Also, the over-cultivation of different crops and insecticides has also become a noticeable cause of land being infertile. The remaining percentage is 7%, which may include the building of unnecessary factories or unplanned urban areas.
Europe, which is the most affected, usually comprises causes like deforestation (9.8%), over-cultivation (7.7%), overgrazing (5.5%), and so on. On the other hand, North America and Oceania are comparatively less affected than Europe. The total land degraded in North America is 5%, whereas Oceania, which is a large group of islands in the South Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand, is approximately 13%.
