The chart illustrates the proportion of worldwide land degradation. Additionally, the table shows the causes that affected three regions (North America, Europe and Oceania) in 1990. Overall, the agriculture land degradation was mostly caused due to over-grazing compared to other two regions. It was mainly due to deforestation. Among the three regions, over-grazing was the highest cause that affected the land in Oceania.
In worldwide, over-grazing was the main cause with 35%. Followed by deforestation with 30%. It was followed by over-cultivation with 28% and only 7% was caused by other reasons.
Europe had the significant land degradation among three regions with 23%. The main cause was due to deforestation with 9.8% and followed by over-cultivation with 7.7%. In the second was Oceania with 13% and the main reason was due to over-grazing with 11.3%. There was no effect of over-cultivation in Oceania. North America’s land was degraded by only 5% and was mainly caused due to over-cultivation. Followed by over-grazing with 1.5%.
