The given pie charts represent boys and girls’ preferred pastimes. The data is based on a survey of the children.
As it can be concluded from the left graph, more than a half of male participants opt for various sports: the most popular physical activity here is basketball (26%) which is followed by soccer and skateboarding (17% and 11% respectively). However, the most popular way to spend time in the group turn out to be computer games – 34% of the boys seem to be involved into them.
Considering the chart which illustrates the females’ hobbies, the following can be mentioned. First, girls generally tend to enjoy sports as much as boys do: in both of the groups physical exercise takes around 50% or 60% in total. Still the females prefer different kinds of the activities: here the leader is dancing which takes 27%, while the other options are gymnastics (15%) and netball (15%). Also both genders equally like listening to music – it is 10% in each case. The biggest difference between the two charts, however, can be seen in the percentages of reading and computer games. The former is more than 10 times favoured by the weak gender (with the percentages being 2 for boys and 21 for girls), while the latter is twice as popular among boys (it is 34 and 16% respectively).
All in all, in girls and boys’ choices of their leisure activities one can clearly see certain common features, e. g. both of them are involved into sports and music almost equally. Still girls seem to delve more into books rather than the virtual games in contrast to boys.
