Overall, Poland gave up its leadership to Sweden on a share of imports over time. Despite Germany’s export increase, it remained with the lowest percentage of imports to the UK. Another noteworthy fact is that total value of brought seafood increased.
In 1987, Poland was the dominant exporter of seafood for the UK, accounting for around two thirds of overall import, almost twice as much as Sweden’s import, leaving it with the second position. As for Germany, it had the lowest percentage at 7%. That year total import value was 7.4 million dollars.
A decade later, the total import value increased by around 1.5 million dollars. Poland’s rate was overtaken by Sweden’s, reaching 40%, 5% more than the former. It is also noticeable that Germany’s export faced a significant growth up to a quarter of all imported seafood to the UK.
Turning to 2007, Germany’s and Sweden’s contribution increased slightly by 2 and 3 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, import from Poland declined to 30%. Regarding total value of imports, it grew from 9.1 million dollars to 12.2 million dollars between 1997 and 2007.
