Overall, the total value of seafood imports rose steadily over the period. In addition, Sweden and Germany increased their shares of the UK market, while Poland’s contribution declined significantly.
In 1987, the total value of seafood imports stood at approximately 7 million dollars. Poland was the dominant supplier, accounting for 65% of total imports, whereas Sweden and Germany supplied much smaller proportions at 28% and 7%, respectively. Ten years later, the overall value increased to about 9 million dollars. During this period, Poland’s share fell sharply to 35%, while Sweden and Germany expanded their contributions to 40% and 25%.
By 2007, seafood imports reached roughly 12 million dollars in value. Sweden became the largest supplier, providing 43% of total imports. Poland ranked second with a share of 30%, while Germany experienced a modest increase, accounting for just over a quarter of the total.
