Band 9: The pie charts below give data on the spending and consumption of resources by countries of the world and how the population is distributed. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

The three pie charts give information about world spending, the distribution of the world’s population and the consumption of resources.

Overall, food was the biggest category of world expenditure, while clothing accounted for the smallest proportion. Moreover, Asia made up the largest share of the world’s population. In addition, the USA and Europe consumed much more resources than the rest of the world.

Looking first at world spending, other items accounted for the highest figure, at 40%. Food made up 24% of total spending, followed by transport at 18%. Housing represented 12%, whereas clothing was only 6%, which was the lowest percentage among all categories.

Regarding the population, Asia made up 57% of the world’s population, which was much higher than any other region. Europe and the America accounted for the same percentage, at 14% respectively. Africa made up only 10%, while other regions represented the remaining 5%.

Finally, the chart about resource consumption shows that the USA and Europe accounted for 60% of the world’s resources, although they do not have the largest population. By contrast, the other countries consumed only 40% of resources. This shows that resources are not distributed equally around the world, and some regions use much more resources than another countries
