The three pie charts illustrate the proportion of users in different age groups across five social media apps in Australia in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Overall, while the proportion of users across four social media apps rose steadily over the period, the figure for Facebook showed a gradual decline.
In 2011, the proportion of Facebook users stood at 59%. This figure showed a significant decline to 49% in 2012 before reducing to 38% in 2013. In contrast, the percentage of Twitter users experienced a gradual growth over the period, from 21% in 2011 to 25% in 2013.
When it comes to the other three social media apps, they experienced only minimal changes. Initially, LinkedIn was responsible for 10% of users, and this proportion rose gradually to 12% in the second year and 15% in the final year of the period. Likewise, the proportion of Google+ and Pinterest users was 5%. Furthermore, Google+ rose significantly to 10% in 2012, 14% in 2013, while Pinterest witnessed a slight growth from 6% to 8% throughout the period.
