The pie charts illustrate the proportion of online sales for various categories – travel, film/music, books, and clothes – in New Zealand in the years 2003 and 2013.
Overall, it is clear that travel had the highest sales at the beginning of the given period, whereas film/music overtook it becoming the most popular sector at the end. Clothes saw a noticeable decline, while books sales grew slightly.
In 2003, travel shared the biggest proportion of online sales at 36%. However, this figure decreased significantly by 7% to 29% by 2013. Similarly, clothes accounted for just under a quarter, becoming the second most popular sector, and their sales also dropped considerably to 16% by the end of the period.
By contrast, film/music, making up 21% at the beginning, became the most dominant category, increasing to 33%, whereas books sales had the smallest proportion at 19% and also rose marginally to 22%.
