The pie charts give information about the contributions of five fuel sources to the total electricity production in France in the years 1990 and 2010.
Overall, it can be seen that there was an upward trend in the percentage of electricity produced using nuclear power, while other sources – coal, oil, natural gas, and hydro power decreased noticeably across both years.
To begin with, in 1990, coal and natural gas were leading fuel sources in France, representing 28 % respectively, followed by oil at 22%. Nuclear power ranked third in this category with 17% ,while the figure for hydro power was lower at 6%.
As for changes, in 2010, the proportion of nuclear power increased dramatically from 17% to 67%, being a dominant among other categories. In contrast, there was nearly twofold decrease in the share of coal and this figure for oil dropped to 13% in 2010. In addition, there was a fall of 24 % in the percentage of natural gas and there was a threefold decrease in the figure for hydro power, making it the least common fuel resource.
