The three pie charts illustrate the sales figures for five different book genres made by a bookseller in 1972, 1992, and 2012.
Looking from an overall perspective, while adult and children’s fiction witnessed an upward trend, the proportion of biography, travel, and other genres’ sales fell over the timeframe. Notably, the figures for each genre in 1972 and 1992 were equally divided.
In 1972, adult and children’s fiction, along with biography accounted for the same percentage, at 20% for each genre, while the highest and lowest sales figures belonged to others and travel, at 25% and 15% respectively. However, there were some minor fluctuations over the next 20 years. In 1992, adult and children’s fiction, as well as travel experienced slight increases, ranging from 2% to 5%. Meanwhile, there was a negligible decrease of 5% in terms of others and biography’s sales figures.
At the end of the period, the sale of adult fiction grew drastically to 45%, making it the leading genre. This similar pattern was also true for children’s fiction, with a minor growth of 3%. Conversely, biography, travel, and other genres saw a decline of roughly 10% in each genre.
