Overall,agriculture dominates water consumption in most regions,especially in developing areas,while industrial use is the largest category in Europe and North America.domestic use remains the smallest proportion across all regions
In four regions:South America,Africa,Central Asia and South East Asia -agriculture is by far the dominant use of water,with figures ranging from 71% South America to peak of 88% in Central Asia .Industrial consumption in these area is considerably lower,never exceeding 12%,while domestic use accounts for less than 20% in all cases, standing at solely 7%in both Central Asia and South East Asia.
By contrast,a different pattern is seen in the more developed regions of North America and Europe.Europe has the hightest proportion of water used for industry with 55% compared to 48%in North America. Agricultural use is notably lower in this regions ,at 32% and 39% respectivelym while domestic consumption remains the smallest category,with 15% in Europe and 13% in North America
