The pie chart illustrates changes in the favorite social media platforms of global internet users in five different categories over 3-year period starting in 2011.
In general, it is noticeable that upward trends were observed in all the given social media apps throughout the period, with the exception of Facebook. Facebook recorded the highest percentage of internet users despite the significant decline during the period shown, the opposite was true for Pinterest.
In the initial period, the percentage of people who chose to use Facebook reached peak at 59%, before a substantial reduction to 38% in 2013. Despite the rapid decrease it remained its dominance among the five global social media channels. Twitter was the second most popular internet app among social media users in 2011, with 21%. In the following years, this figure witnessed a gradual rise to 25% in the final year. Similarly, Linkedln accounted for 10% of people favorite app in the first year, which was followed by a steady increase to 15% in 2013.
At the beginning of the period, the lowest proportion of people favorite channel was Google+ was the same as that of Pinterest, stood at 5% each. While Google+ saw a rapid increase to 14% in the year 2013, by contrast, there was a slight rise to 8% in the proportion of global internet users on Pinterest. Meanwhile, this app remained in last place among all the given categories.
