The pie charts illustrates the proportions of people using five different types of transport in one city in 2000 and 2020.
Overall, cars remained the most popular form of transport, and their share increased significant over the period. In contrast, public transport, walking and cycling became less common, while the figure for other forms of transport remained stable.
In 2000, cars accounted 40% of total transport use, which was twice as high than the figure for public transport, at 20%. Walking and other forms of transport each represented 15%, whereas cycling made up the smallest share, at 10%.
By 2020, the proportion of people travelling by car had risen to 55%, an increase of 15%. Meanwhile, the share using public transport decreased at 15%, and walking fell from 15% to 10%. The proportion choosing bicycles was also lower, reaching 5%, which was half of its original level. Finally, other forms of transport remained stably at 15%, the same proportion with public transport in the final year.
