The charts illustrates the percentage of holiday makers using four different types of accommodations in three periods of time between 1988 and 2008.
Overall, it can be seen that staying with family and friends is by far the most popular options in all the periods. Additionally, while rented apartments become more popular, camping is becoming less popular.
In the first decade(1988 to 1998), all types saw an increase, with the exception of camping, which halved from 26% to 13%. Moreover, while staying with family and friends and rented apartments only saw a slight increase (2% and 4% respectively), hotels experienced a bigger increase of 7% (from 15% to 22%).
In the second period, staying with relatives became moderately less common, which decreased from 54% to 44%. Rented apartments doubled from 11% to 22%, which have the same proportion as hotels, which remained stable. In this decade, camping saw an even further decrease of 1%, and it became the least common type of accommodation.
