The pie charts illustrate the percentage of holidaymakers using four different kinds of accommodation, including staying with family and friends, rented apartments, camping and hotels from 1988 to 2008.
Overall, it is clear that the percentage of those who prefer to stay with family and friends was the highest whereas the proportion of rented apartments was the lowest. The percentage of rented apartments increased over the period, while the percentage of camping decreased. The proportion of staying with family fluctuated and the figure for hotels increased and levelled off.
Looking at the graph in more detail, the figure for rented apartments accounted for 7% in 1988, before increasing significantly to 11% in 1998, after which it rose dramatically to 22% in 2008. As regards the proportion of hotels, it stood at 15% at the beginning of the period and then it increased noticeably to 22%, after that it remained unchanged in 2008.
Regarding remaining types of accommodation, the figure for camping represented 26% in 1988 and then it declined considerably to 13% in 1998. Afterward, it fell slightly to 12% in 2008. The percentage of those who stay with family and friends accounted for 52% in 1988, before raising slightly to 54% in 1998, after which it dropped significantly to 44% at the end of the period.
