The pie graphs illustrate the variations in money spending for people in Britain in two different years, 1971 and 2001.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that food was by far the highest category in spending in 1971; however, computers were the least during the same year, while cars had the highest percentage in spending in 2001.
In 1971, the category in which people spent the most money was food at 44%, followed by cars at 22%. Petrol and furniture nearly had the same proportions at 10% and 9%, respectively, leaving computers in which the least money was spent at only 2%.
After 30 years, the expenditure on cars was the highest at 43% in 2001, increasing by almost 30% from 1971. The percentage of money spent on food, on the other hand, declined by 30%, reaching 14% in 2001, which was the same as restaurants. Spending on books decreased from 6% in 1971 to only 1% in 2001, which was the lowest in that year.
