The maps illustrate the changes that have taken place in the village of Pebbleton over a 20-year period.
Overall, Pebbleton has undergone substantial development in its northern area, particularly in terms of residential, recreational and transport facilities, while the southern part of the village has remained largely unchanged.
In the north, the lighthouse has been preserved in its original position on the north-western coast, overlooking the sea. However, the surrounding area has been significantly modernised. The housing area has expanded eastwards, with a considerable increase in the number of residential properties along the former Old Fort Road. In addition, a community centre has been constructed near the lighthouse, and a tennis court has been added nearby, enhancing recreational opportunities for residents. Although the playground remains in place, access to this area has been improved through the development of better road infrastructure.
By contrast, the southern part of Pebbleton has experienced minimal change. The school and the surrounding green spaces remain as they were 20 years ago. The most notable development in this area is the construction of a footbridge, which now connects the island to the mainland across the river. Furthermore, the former film studio on the western coastline has been converted into flats, accompanied by the addition of a coastal footpath. Aside from these minor alterations, the southern landscape has largely retained its original layout.
