The maps illustrate how the town of Pebbleton has changed over the past two decades. Overall, the town, particularly the peninsula, has become more residential and recreational, with the addition of housing and leisure facilities. It is also clear that with the introduction of the bridge, the town became more accessible.
Twenty years ago, the peninsula used to offer a limited range of facilities. It was surrounded by a sea on the north and west sides. The only access was from a bridge connecting Old Fort and Coast Road, with a river in the middle that runs from west to east and a school on Coast Road. Across the bridge, a roundabout joins the Old Fort Road, alongside which trees lead to a playing field and film studio westwards on the left and the Lighthouse Lane on the right. At the end of this lane, there were four houses on the north, while an old fort and a lighthouse stood on the northwest side.
Since then, significant changes have taken place. To improve accessibility, a new footbridge has been constructed, connecting the school on the mainland and the playing field on the peninsula. To the left of it, flats have replaced the film studio, while tennis courts have been built between the footpath and Lighthouse Lane. Three new houses have been built at the end of this lane with a community center nearby. There is also a children’s playground where the old fort once was. Other features, however, have remained intact over the period.
