The two blueprints illustrate the differences between a traditional and modern two-storey Japanese house.

Overall, traditional Japan home undergoes a significant refurbishment with some relocations to have more space for sleeping.

In downstairs, room 1 used for sleep is relocated from being on the right of the cupboard to being below it. The space for room 1 in the traditional Japanesese house now is used for living or dining. The bathroom is demolished and replaced by a kitchen. Stairs are moved closer to the entrance in the mordern house.

About upstairs, the two cupboards are removed to make space for three new bedrooms, with two small bedrooms located in the north of the room and the biggest one located in the South. From having no bathrooms in the traditional house, now two bathrooms are constructed. The main bathroom is located between the space of two small bedrooms and the big one. Meanwhile, the remaining bedroom is constructed inside the main bedroom.
