The maps illustrate the layout of a two-storey Japanese house between traditional form and modern design planning.
Overall, two stairs of a house have undergone several noticeable modifications, the most prominent of which is the modernization of bedroom areas by the addition of new features such as modern beds, replacing some rooms on the downstairs. In addition, traditional bedrooms on the upstairs have been rearranged to match their sizes.
In the downstairs, almost all rooms are removed to expand space, except for the previous bedroom on the right-above corner, which is rearranged on the right-above corner and this area is used for additional living and drinking areas. Similarly, the entrance is situated at the right-bottom of downstairs and this remains in planning, the bathroom is removed in favour of a narrowing and moving kitchen. In contrast, the tatami flooring, sliding doors, night time, cupboard room with futon and door continue to be used to ensure functional continuity, whereas unfolded futon and are added.
In the upstairs, there are significant changes in these areas, with the destruction of almost all rooms for cutting-edge areas. In terms of room designs, the previous rooms have been established to match their sizes and expanded from 2 to 3 bedrooms, including the addition of 2 bathrooms. Turning to the facilities, the tatami, night time, unfolded futon, and futon are removed compared to sliding doors that are replaced to use modern doors, adding more beds. Meanwhile, the stairs also remain unchanged.
