The provided plans delineate the current configuration of Southwest Airport and the proposed enhancements scheduled for implementation in the upcoming year.
Significant modifications are slated to occur across the airport, with notable improvements in both accessibility and passenger facilities, resulting in a more efficient and accommodating layout.
Presently, the airport features six distinct areas, namely check-in, café, gates, passport control, security control, and transport control. Access to the airport is unidirectional; passengers enter through the departures corridor, which houses both the check-in area and a café, while the arrivals side remains devoid of any amenities. Following security and passport checks, departing travelers proceed along a walkway to the gates, whereas incoming passengers exit via passport control areas. This layout potentially limits the overall passenger experience, as indicated by the absence of facilities on the arrivals side.
In the proposed redevelopment, the airport’s structure will expand to encompass 18 distinct areas, effectively increasing capacity and functionality. Importantly, two access points will be established—one for departures and another for arrivals. New amenities will be introduced, including a baggage drop-off for departing passengers, as well as a café, ATM, and car hire facilities designated for arrivals. The future layout, configured in a Y-shape, will feature additional gates, significantly enhancing operational efficiency on peak travel days. Furthermore, the introduction of a sky-train will facilitate expedited transportation for passengers, thereby improving overall accessibility within the airport.
