The two maps showed transformation of the South Wing of Walton Museum floor plan in the years of 2008 and 2012. Overall, the museum has become more visitor friendly and modern with the introduction of a range of new facilities. It’s also clear that ground floor and the second ground level remained more or less intact while additional two floors were added above.
Focusing on the 2008 plan, access was from the west with the path leading to the entrance and the reception was located in the middle. There was a gallery and shop in the ground floor near which were stairs while cloak room was in the eastern part of the ground floor reading room was on the right above.
Regarding the floor plan in 2012, it has experienced significant changes except for the path. The entrance was transformed into close entrance hall besides which was the terrace and the reception was now featuring the clock room and its place became a children’s play area. The gallery shop and reading room remained the same while the stairs made way for lift. Also two floors were constructed above with a self service café on the right and the restaurant on the other side. Final alteration was adding new floor for the exhibition room on the third floor.
