This diagram illustrates the layout of the South Wing of Walton Museum in 2008 and its redevelopment in 2012.
Looking at the picture, it is evident that the South Wing underwent significant modernization, with a large number of amenities introduced, including recreational facilities and relaxation services, as well as the relocation of some specific rooms. Additionally, these changes were evenly distributed throughout the entire map.
Regarding the year 2008, on the ground floor, a special exhibition room, a shop and a cloakroom were located, with a staircase situated between the latter two rooms. On the upper floor, above the shop and cloakroom were a reception area and a reading room. Furthermore, an entrance was recorded on the left of the reception.
By 2012, the South Wing had been substantially altered. The former reception and cloakroom were merged into a single room and located above the previous shop. The removal of the staircase can be observed to make room for the lift, which provided access to several new facilities, namely the children’s playground, a normal exhibition room, a self-service café, and an additional exhibition room, respectively. Moreover, a restaurant and a rooftop terrace had been constructed above the newly positioned reception area. The entrance was converted into enclosed actual room and remained in its previous location. Notably, the shop and the special exhibition room remained unchanged in their original positions.
