The maps illustrate some changes to the South Wing of Walton museum over a period of four years (2008-2012).
Overall, the museum experienced considerable changes during the period shown. The most noticeable difference between the two maps is that the layout of the museum was modernized and expanded, with several new facilities added, such as a restaurant, a children’s play area, and a lift.
As can be seen from the maps, from 2008 to 2012, the special exhibition room and the shop remained in the original position. The reception and the cloaks room merged into a single area, and a restaurant was added above the reception. The entrance hall was constructed above the special exhibition room and topped with a terrace.
Turning to the other features, we can see that the stairs connected the shop and the cloaks room was replaced by a lift connecting all floors. The cloaks room was demolished to make way for the children’s play area, and above was the reading room. Additionally, a self-service room was built on the second floor, and a new exhibition room was located on the top.
