Overall, the annual attendance increased whilst the frequency of visit underwent fluctuation with an overall declining trend. It is also clear that people aged 14-24 were the most frequent moviegoers, opposite people aged 35-49, who were the less frequent moviegoers.
In terms of the cinema attendance, the proportion of the Australian population going to the movie theater rose and remained relatively stable at 72%, with an exception of a dip to 70% in 2000. The average number of visits saw a less significant increase from 10.7 in 1994 to 11.3 in 1996 and remained unchanged for the remaining period.
Regarding the frequencies of visiting cinema of all age groups, all age groups frequented the cinema most often in 1996 between approximately 10 and 13 times before the proportions dropping to their lowest attendance in 1998, which is from exactly 5 to about 8 times per person. From 1998 to 2002, there were slight rises in all age groups with the figure of people aged 14-24 remaining highest at exactly 10 visits. While those of other groups reflected the national average at between 7 to 8 visits.
