The table and line graph illustrate the proportion of the population visiting cinemas and the average number of cinema visits by different age groups in Auckland from 1995 to 2003.
Overall, while the proportion of people attending cinemas increased over the period, the average number of visits per person showed a declining trend. Throughout the eight years, the 14-24 age group consistently made up the most cinema visits, while the over-50s group constituted the least。
In 1995, 67% of the population attended the cinema. This figure rose steadily, reaching its peak at 80% in 2001 before slightly decreasing to 72% by 2003. In addition, the average number of visits was 10.3 at first, then rose by1997 to 11.2, followed by dropping significantly in 1999 to 7.3. By 2001, this figure recovered to 8.4 and eventually fell slightly to 8.3 in 2003,
Looking at the data by age group, each group showed a similar pattern. The 14-24-year-old visitors was consistently the highest number and except for 1999, the numbers were all between the range of 10-12. The 25-34 and 35-49 age groups had relatively similar numbers, fluctuating between 9 and 11 visits.In contrast, the over-50 age group had the fewest visits, generally staying between 8-10.
