The table and pie illustrate the gross value and sources of fish imports to the UK between 1990 to 2000.
Overall, the UK experienced a notable rise in the total value of fish. In addition, Canada and other contries share the same amount of fish importation in 1990, while in 2000, other countries constituted almost half of the sources of fish imported to the UK.
Looking at the overall value, it was clear that the UK undergone a steady climb from 6.5 in 1990 billion to 7.05 billion in 1995. The figure continued to increase and reached 10.5 billion in 2000, approximately triple the amount between 1990 and 1995.
Regarding the sources of fish importation, a clear shift was observed in two dominant categories. Canada and other countries initially topped the pie, both accounting for almost half of the total fish imported; however, the figure of Canada sharply declined in the following years, only contributed about one fourth of the figure in 2000. In stark contrast, other nations steadily grew and became the UK largest sources of imported fish. Japan imported least amount of fish to the UK in 1990, but continued to grow gradually in the next period, surpassed Canada in 2000 with a third of the proportion.
