The table provides a comprehensive comparison of five different countries in terms of three distinct categories of products and services in the year 2002.
Overall, all countries allocated a substantial portion to food, beverages and tobacco, with Turkey being the biggest spender in this category. In contrast, leisure activities and education were allotted a limited amount of the overall consumer expenditure, with Spain being the least spender.
Concerning sustenance, drinks and cigarettes, Turkey ranked first, with a staggering 32.14%, significantly exceeding Italy’s figure by a nearly two-time discrepancy, which accounted for 16.36%. Similarly, the second biggest spender was Ireland, with an impressive 29%, surpassing the figure for Sweden by a relatively two-time disparity, which made up 15,77%. Additionally, the proportion of Spain was marginally higher than those of Italy and Sweden, coming in about 19%.
With regard to clothing and footwear, Italy took a leading position, at 9%, outstripping Sweden’s spending by a considerable margin, being recorded at 5.40%. Ireland, Spain, Turkey had a comparatively identical spending level, at 6.43%, 6.51%, and 6.63% sequentially.
Shifting focus to recreational activities and education, Turkey much enjoyed leisure and the pursuit of education, with the highest percentage of 4.35%, nearly doubling that of Ireland. The proportions of Italy and Sweden were relatively similar, at 3.20% and 3.22% respectively. Meanwhile, Spain did not place heavy emphasis on relaxation and formal education, representing the smallest share, at just 1.98%
