The table gives information on the number of high school students that speaks other language than English at home in one school area in the USA in 2008 and 2014.
Overall, it can be seen that the number of bilingual students increased throughout the years. However, the number of Spanish-speaking students doubled, and Spanish remained the most popular language.
In 2008 Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese accounted for the largest proportion with number of students of 15.110, 3.029, and 2.557 respectively. In 2014 the third position has changed and was held by Chinese (4.670) instead of Vietnamese (only 1.467) that dropped to number 5.
The least popular languages in 2008 were Tagalog, Polish, and Nepalese with 138, 110, and 95 respectively. In 2014 the number of Polish-speaking students decreased to 82 and it became the least popular language. Despite the increase of the number of the Hindi-speaking students from 375 in 2008 to 430 in 2014, the number of Tagalog speakers increased more, so they have changed places.
