Overall, as can be seen that the number of holidaymaker who travelled to Australia has been increasing to varying extents among different sites except for some places. The Great Barrier Reef had the highest visitors in 2000 while the opposite was true for Macquarie Island.
Looking at the data for more detail, one can see that the Great Barrier Reef experienced the most significantly growth among all locations in Australia from 1 670 000 to 3 200 000 in 2000. Moreover, the number of visitors in Blue Mountains and Tasmania Wilderness grew modestly, by 526 000 to 581 000 and from 450 000 to 483 000 respectively.
It is interesting to note that in Central Eastern Rainforest Reserve, it welcomed about 20 000 visits fewer every two years from 810 000 to 770 000 during this period, became the second popular places for tourists. In contrast, Shark Bay attracted 84 000 visitors, which increased significantly to 102 000 travellers, followed by declined considerably to 89 000, whereas Macquarie Island dropped slightly from 350 to 330 holidaymarkers.
