The chart showcase the involvement in sports throughout a four-year-period among people living in the UK. In this way, three main sports categories are considered and the participation in each is discriminated by gender.
Firstly, indoor activities are the most chosen activities by both genders, indeed the participation ranges between 25 to 30 percent. Besides, the proportion of women involved in these activities, such as swimming and diving, is quite bigger than men. Although it slightly decreased from 18 per cent to 16.5 by the end of the period. On the other hand, throughtout the same period the percentage of men involved hovered 13 percent on avarage.
Regarding the category of cycling, theres is a remarkable differenece among gender participation. The percentage of men doubled women’s in every year surveyed. The same trend can be noticed in the remaining activity group, jogging, cross-country and road-running.
Overall, it can be noticed that between 2005 and 2009, women prefered indoor activities above the other categories, although there is not a clear favorite for men, since they preferred swimming and cycling on the same proportion.
