The table illustrates the average daily time spent by males and females on 8 different non-work activities in a European country in 2005.
Overall, women spent more time on domestic tasks and childcare, while men allocated to leisure activities like audio-visual entertainment. Both genders devoted the most time to sleep and rest.
According to the table, sleep and rest were the most time-consuming activities for both genders, with women sleeping slightly longer than men (9 hours 6 minutes compared to 8 hours 47 minutes). The second most common activity for both genders is audio-visual activity, which is spent nearly 3 hours by men and 2.5 hours by women daily. Women dedicated more time to household chores and childcare (3 hours and 32 minutes) almost double of men (1 hour and 56 minutes). However, socialising was almost equal for both genders, with each spending 1.5 hours daily.
Similarly, men allocated 8 minutes less than women (40 minutes) to personal care and it can be seen that males were dominant in spending time for hobbies, games and sports with dedicating 50 minutes, whereas females spent 30 minutes in a day. Reading showed a little difference, with men spending 23 minutes and women 26 minutes. Voluntary work took the least time for both sexes, with women allocating 20 minutes and men 15 minutes daily.
