The table provides a comparison between six countries in terms of how much wastes they produced over the past two decades.
Overall, it is clear that the US discarded more garbage than the combined total amount of other countries throughout the period. In all but one country, there can only be a downward trend in the rate of waste production.
Between 1980 and 2000, US disposal of trash rose up to 131 million tones to 151 million tones which was the highest. Japan was ranked at the second place that also repeated the same upward trend with the US trend, increasing twice by 28 to 53 million tones. The remaining countries, Portugal and Poland, saw mere increase in 2000. Ireland produced the lowest amount of trash in the year of 1980, despite no records in 1990, it reached 5 million tones in 2000 which was more than eightfold increase.
In contract, Korea reduced its output by 12 million tonnes between 1990 and 2000.
