The table compares the quantities of waste that were produced in six different countries (Ireland, Japan, Korea, Poland, Portugal, and the US) from 1980 to 2000. The units are measured in millions of tonnes.
Overall, the amount of trash that was manufactured in the US was by far the highest among these countries. It is also noticeable that Korea was the only country which experienced a decline at the end of the period.
In details, waste production in the US increased from 131 to 192 million tonnes between 1980 and 2000. The rate for Portugal rose from 2 to 5 million tonnes, while waste production in Poland grew from 4 to 6.6 million tonnes until the end of the time frame. As for that of Japan, its rate was 28 million tonnes in 1980, and then, this quantity became about 2 times higher than its old rate in 2000.
Regarding that of Ireland and Korea, the former’s rate ascended from 0.6 to 5 million tonnes between 1980 and 2000, while the trend for Korea saw a decrease, falling from 31 to 19 million tonnes in the last decade.
