Turning to other categories, healthcare spending was noticeably high in the USA at $5,600 – significantly more than in the UK ($4,200) and Germany ($3,800). Transport costs were also greater in the USA, at $4,000, compared to roughly $3,000 in the other countries. Entertainment made up the smallest expenditure overall, ranging from $3,900 in the USA to $2,500 in Germany.
According to the pie chart, housing represented the highest proportion of global household expenditure at 35%, followed by food and beverages (25%), transport (15%), healthcare (13%), and entertainment (12%).
