The table illustrates the average weekly expenses (in US dollars) on food, transport, entertainment and clothing in four cities – London, Tokyo, Sydney and New York – in 2020.
Overall, New York recorded the highest spending in total across all cities, while Sydney had the lowest figure. Notably, food category was the most spending of all categories, in contrast with, clothing which was the lowest category.
In terms of New York, it recorded the highest total weekly expenditure at $485, considerably more than Sydney which had the lowest at $325. New York also spend the most on food at $180 which was more than doubled that spent on clothing. Meanwhile, New York was the second city on total spending, respectively.
Among all categories, food was the highest in total spending followed by transport, entertainment and clothing. London spending on food was just doubled spending on clothing at $120. It was worth noting that all cities spent more on entertainment than clothing.
