The table provides information about the percentage of people interested in different sport activities in European countries in 1999, 2004 and 2009.
Overall, football accounted for the largest proportion throughout the period, whereas golf and yoga were the least popular sports. It is also noteworthy that at the end tennis and swimming showed almost the same results.
Initially, in 1999, the percentage of tennis was 25%, however, by 2009 it had risen to 33%. Moving on to swimming, in the beginning it has around 32% and after some time, in 2004, reached 34% and stayed the same. Turning to golf, we notice that at first it was around 8%, but in 2004, it had reached 13%. By 2009, the percentage of golf gradually reached 17%. Yoga also experienced gradual growth. At the start of the period, it was 10% and stayed stable. But by 2009, it had reached around 30%.
In contrast, football was very popular at the beginning of the period, with around 57% in 1999; however, by 2009, it had decreased to 48%. Following a similar trend, volleyball and basketball were also popular initially, at 17% and 26% respectively, but by 2009, their percentages had dropped to 8% and 20%.
