The statistics illustrate how many visitors came to five tourist attractions in Europe in 1981, 1991 and 2001, measured in millions.
What stands out from the chart is that the amusement park and the National Aquatic Centre witnessed a downward trend in visitor numbers whereas the British Museum and the Rijksmuseum exhibited a contrasting pattern. Meanwhile, the figure for zoos remained almost unchanged. Among all the attractions, the amusement park remained the most popular throughout the period.
In 1981, the amusement park was the most popular attraction, welcoming 7.5 million visitors, which was more than double the figure for the National Aquatic Centre (3.85 million). This was followed by the British Museum and the Rijksmuseum at approximately 2.98 million and 2.44 million visitors respectively. At the bottom of the list were Zoos with just over 1 million visitors
Over the following two decades, the number of visitors to the amusement park initially fell slightly to 6.8 million in 1991 before recovering to 7.01 million in 2001. Despite some fluctuations, it remained the most popular attraction. Similarly, visitor numbers at the National Aquatic Centre declined steadily, reaching 3.21 million by the end of the period. In contrast, both the British Museum and the Rijksmuseum experienced an upward trend, with their figures rising to 4.3 million and 4.28 million, respectively. The number of visitors to zoos remained stable at approximately 1.1 million throughout the period.
