The bar chart illustrates the number of Australian students studying in five different countries (the USA, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, and Japan) over a three-year period from 2004 to 2006.
Overall, the USA was the most popular destination among Australian students throughout the period, followed by New Zealand and the UK. In contrast, Germany and Japan attracted significantly fewer students, with numbers remaining relatively stable over the years.
Looking at the chart in more detail, initially, around 2,600 Australian students studied in the USA, and this number steadily increased to nearly 2,900 by 2006. A similar yet less pronounced increase was seen in the figure for New Zealand, from approximately 2,550 in 2004 to about 2,700 in 2006. The UK also experienced a slight upward trend, attracting around 1,500 students in 2004 and just over 1,600 by 2006.
In terms of other countries, the figures for Germany and Japan were much lower. Germany hosted about 180 Australian students in 2004 – a figure that then remained fairly stable. A similar pattern had emerged in Japan, having almost the same figures as Germany for each year.
