The table illustrates the ratio of urban and rural adults, who participated in four spare time activities between 1900 and 2010.
Overall, it is noticeable that adults were interested in reading and photography, with participation in these activities increasing over the survey period. In contrast, engagement in animated plays and playing remained lower and exhibited only minor fluctuations by 2010.
Regarding the proportion of reading and animated plays, reading demonstrated an overwhelming predominance of activities in inner-city and pastoral regions, participated by 71% of rural adults and 61% of urban adults, respectively, in 1990. Followed this, by 2010, which peaked at 78% in both areas, hiked by about three-fourths in urban and more than two-thirds in rural. Conversely, the proportion of adults participating in animated plays experienced a marginal fall in metropolis areas, dropping from 18% to 14%, while it remained unchanged in urban areas at 10%.
In terms of playing and photography, participation in playing followed a downward trend in urban areas, falling from 21% in 1990 to a minimal 14% by 2010, while in rural areas, the rate remained steady over the two decades. Nevertheless, photography saw notable growth, with engagement in pastoral zones more than doubling from 7% to 17%, and in rustic zones, it nearly doubled from 14% to 24% during the survey period.
