The table gives information about the proportion of male and female workers in distinct fields of employment in a particular country between 1986, 1996, and 2006.
Overall, the percentage of men and women who worked in banking and education followed an upward trend, whereas that in manufacturing industry witnessed a decrease. In terms of catering, the number of male workers increased, while that of females remained unchanged throughout the given period.
Looking at the table in more detail, 33% of women worked in educational settings, compared to men’s 13%, while the figures for women and men working in banking were 12% and 11% in that order. In the following years, the numbers of male staffs in education witnessed increases of 1%, with the figures standing at 14% and 15% by 2006, which compared to nearly 2.5% increases of women, equivalent to growths of 35% and 38%. Likewise, banking witnessed rises in both men and women, with the proportion men increased significantly from 11% to 20%, before growing slightly by 1%, whereas that of women increased slightly, ranging from 12%, 16%, and 19%.
Regarding the remaining areas of employment, 32% of men pursued a career in manufacturing industry, which was higher than that of women, at 18%. Thereafter, there was a 11% decrease in the number of men working in that field, which continued to decrease to 17%. Similarly, women working in the same field also experienced a 6% decline over the given period. In addition, 26% of women working in catering remained unchanged; meanwhile, male workers in that field increased from 16% to 22%, which stayed stable by 2006.
