The table illustrates the proportions of poverty rate among six types of families in Australia in 1999. Overall, living in poverty for single families was more common than that of couple ones among their groups.
Looking at coupled families in detail, the amount of poverty rate among aged couple families was the least common, at 4%, while the figure for childless couple families(7%) was more common. Furthermore, the figure for couples with children (933,000) living in poverty, at 12%, was the most significant.
Turning to the single people and sole parent(households with higher rates), the figure for impoverished sole parents stood at 21% (232,000) among its group although it was significantly lower in terms of number from that of couples with children(933,000). It was followed by childless single households in terms of percentage, higher than couple with children in terms of number(359,000). The proportion of impoverished single aged adult stood at substancially lower, at 6%. Poverty rate among all households stood at 11% and in terms of number at 1837,000.
